U.S. officials to boycott Beijing Olympics

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – This week, the Biden administration plans to declare that U.S. representatives will not be attending the Beijing Olympics in 2022. CNN reported this Sunday.
U.S. President Joe Biden stated last month that he considered a diplomatic boycott of China to protest China’s human rights record. This includes what Washington calls genocide against minorities Muslims. The Obama administration was under intense pressure by activists and Congressmen to not participate in the games.
CNN reported that the White House did not comment on Sunday’s CNN report. Four previous sources who knew the thinking of the White House told Reuters there was a rising consensus to exclude U.S. officials and contractors from the Beijing Olympics.
CNN stated that athletes would still be able to compete in the Olympics despite the boycott by the United States.
Questions about Sunday’s report were not answered by the State Department on Sunday night.
