REUTERS/Carlos Garcia RawlinsSYDNEY (Reuters) – Australian government officials will not attend the Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing next year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Wednesday, joining the United States with a diplomatic boycott of the event.
Morrison stated that the Chinese government had not made an attempt to address several concerns raised by Australia, including allegations of human rights violations.
It is therefore not surprising that Australian officials will not travel to China for the games. Morrison said that Australian athletes would go to China, but he did not rule out the possibility.
