Drake pulls out of Grammy Awards race -Breaking

LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – Drake, a Canadian artist, withdrew Monday from the Grammy Awards. Sources close to Drake said that Drake had withdrawn his nominations for the music’s highest honors.

Drake (35) received two Grammy nominations for his rap music last month. He was nominated for the best rap album, “Certified Lover Boy”, and for his performance of “Way 2 Sexy.”

Sources claimed that Drake and his management requested the decision to withdraw from consideration. However, they did not give any reasons. Sources said that the Recording Academy website would be updated Monday in order to delete Drake’s Grammy nominations.

Drake has had a contentious relationship to the Grammys. His album “Certified Lover Boy”, was among the most-sold albums in 2021.

Drake criticized The Grammys for completely shutting out Canadian The Weeknd on its nominees list last year. Drake, who declined to perform at 2019’s ceremony, then attacked the award show from the podium.

“I wanna let you know we’re playing in an opinion-based sport not a factual-based sport,” he said while accepting the Grammy for his single “God’s Plan.”

“This is a business where sometimes it’s up to a bunch of people who might not understand what a mixed race kid from Canada has to say or a fly Spanish girl from New York or anybody else,” Drake added.

Grammy nominees are selected by Recording Academy members and then voted by them. Jon Batiste (jazz musician) led this year’s nominations with 11 nods. Justin Bieber and Doja Cat followed.

Los Angeles, 31 January: Winners to be announced
