REUTERS/Denis Balibouse(Reuters) – Omicron, a coronavirus variant that can partly evade protection Pfizer Bloomberg News reported that Inc (NYSE 🙂 and BioNTech, its partner, have released the COVID-19 vaccination vaccine.
According to Alex Sigal (head of the laboratory), the evasion may not be complete. A booster shot might provide extra protection.
Omicron, a variant first discovered in Southern Africa last month has raised alarms worldwide about a new surge in infection. More than two dozen countries, from Japan to America, have reported cases.
It was classified by the World Health Organization as a “variant concern” on November 26th, but there were no supporting evidence for the development of new vaccines that specifically target the Omicron mutation.
Sigal has not yet responded to Reuters’s request for comment.
