Chief Executive Alan Joyce stated on Tuesday.
At a CAPA Centre event for aviation, he stated that “domestically” there was a huge demand when border gates open. In Queensland alone, we have experienced a 24 hour surge.
From a Dec. 17 estimate, Queensland’s Monday announcement brought forward opening its borders domestically to December 13, from the previous estimate of Dec. 17.
Joyce indicated that Jetstar’s low-cost rival should have 120% domestic capacity before April COVID, and Qantas premium brand should have 115%.
According to him, the airline was on track to choose a supplier to supply more than 100 aircraft to replace its aging domestic fleet by the end the year.
Internationally, recovery will take longer. Qantas, however, will return some super-jumbo A380 planes from Sydney to London and New York next July.
Joyce explained that, despite a decline in international business travel, Joyce believed his airline was still dependent on leisure travellers to generate 60% of its premium revenue. Large companies contribute 20%, while small and medium-sized businesses receive 20%.
