Russia fines Google 5 million roubles for not deleting banned content -Breaking

MOSCOW, (Reuters) – Russia fined Alphabet, (NASDAQ) Google $5 million ($67,190), a Moscow court ruled Tuesday. The latest in a long list of punishments against the tech giants for failing to remove content that is illegal.

Moscow is increasing pressure on foreign tech company this year. It’s a campaign critics describe as an effort by Russian authorities to increase their control over the internet. The Russian authorities claim that it will stifle freedom of individuals and corporations.

Google didn’t immediately reply to our request for comment.
