WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The World Bank said Monday that its financing had enabled 100 million COVID-19 vaccinations to be delivered around the globe. It also stated it expected the number of 150 million by the month’s end, assuming the vaccines are available as planned.

David Malpass (World Bank) stated that nearly 300,000,000 doses had been contracted by the multilateral bank. There were $7.5 Billion in financing vaccine operations to 69 countries. This was as of December 31,

Malpass, speaking at an event hosted by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), stressed that rich countries must fulfill their generous donations as soon as possible. She also unveiled a database which will track the countries in need for financial and operational support.

Like the recent delivery swap between the United States of America and the African Union Moderna (NASDAQ:) were helpful in meeting immediate needs.

It is crucial to be ready and available for deployment. We have ample funding and are working with partners to address this crisis.

Malpass said the new World Bank Vaccine Deployment Tracker https://www.worldbank.org/en/who-we-are/news/coronavirus-covid19/covid-19-vaccine-deployment-tracker would help resolve specific bottlenecks to scale up vaccine deployment. This tracker was created by the World Bank and COVAX Country Readiness and Delivery Team. They include UNICEF and GAVI.
