WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden stated Wednesday that deploying American troops in Ukraine to prevent a Russian invasion is “not on” the table and he hoped he could announce a meeting between Russia and NATO members by Friday.

Biden, speaking to reporters after he left White House on Tuesday, stated that he had clearly communicated to Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his almost two-hour virtual meeting, that there would be severe economic consequences if Russia invades Ukraine.
