Helicopter carrying Indian defence chief crashes; inquiry ordered -Breaking

NEW DELHI (Reuters] – A helicopter carrying the Indian defense chief General Bipin Rahat crashed in the vicinity of Coonoor, southern India, on Wednesday. This was according to the Indian Air Force.

According to two sources, defence officials are currently trying determine Rawat’s status.

Sources told Reuters, “We don’t know yet.” Both refused to give their names.

The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in late 2019 appointed Rawat to the position as India’s Chief Defence Staff (CDS). The position was set-up with the aim of integrating India’s three services — the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

According to the Air Force, Rawat was travelling in a Mi-17V5 helicopter.

The Air Force tweeted that “An inquiry was ordered to determine the cause of this accident.”
