The helicopter that was carrying the Indian defense chief General Bipin Rohat crashed into southern India Wednesday. At least four persons were killed. Officials stated they were still looking for him to confirm if he is among them.

Two defence sources claimed that they had been trying to establish Rawat’s status after the collision near Coonoor.

Sources told Reuters, “We don’t know yet.” Both refused to give their names. Two other officials from the government confirmed that four people had died.

Rawat had to travel from Sulur (Indian Air Force) to Wellington, in Tamil Nadu in order to present a lecture. Along the flight path is Hill station Coonoor.

Prime Minister Rawat appointed Rawat the first Indian Chief of Defence Staff. Narendra ModiThe government as of late 2019. It was established with the intention of integrating India’s three services, the Army Navy Navy and Air Force.

Rawat had served previously as India’s Chief Army Staff. The Air Force stated that Rawat was in a Mi-17V5 helicopter. India owns dozens of Russian military helicopters that are used extensively by both the military and top government officials visiting defence locations.

J.J.Singh, the former Army chief, said that it is a reliable helicopter and he has travelled on it in challenging situations.

Local media and Reuters partner ANI captured rescue crews steaming the wreckage in a wooded area.

Air Force tweets that they have ordered an inquiry to find out the causes of the accident.
