WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said on Friday it had found no safety issues after investigating allegations made against Blue Origin’s human spaceflight program.
According to the FAA, in September, it said that it will review safety concerns raised earlier by Blue Origin employees. On Friday, the FAA stated that it had closed its probe after finding no safety concerns and would not take any action against Jeff Bezos, a billionaire who owns Blue Origin.
Alexandra Abrams (ex-head of Blue Origin Employee Communications) and 20 unnamed Blue Origin employees said that they have “seen an underlying pattern in decision making which often prioritises execution speed and cost reduction over appropriate resourcing for quality.”
Blue Origin’s spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to Friday’s request for comment, but stated that Abrams had been dismissed “for cause” in September after being warned repeatedly about federal export controls regulations.
CBS News reported Abrams that she did not receive any warnings regarding export control issues.
Bezos took to the skies in July aboard a New Shepard launch car and flew suborbital 66.5 mile (107 km), above Texas desert.
Blue Origin claimed in September that they stood by their safety record. They believe New Shepard to be the best space vehicle ever created or designed.
The essay said a 2018 team at Blue Origin “documented more than 1,000 problem reports related to the engines that power Blue Origin’s rockets, which had never been addressed.”
