Developer Samuel Dobson Annouced via a series of tweets on Thursday night that he is stepping down as a Core maintainer after three years as he “can no longer dedicate the time required, as I approach the end of my Ph.D.”

Dobson was a Bitcoin Core wallet keeper and had access to the code of the currency on GitHub. He also had permission to make changes to the Bitcoin software. Dobson was responsible for the protocol’s security.
