JERUSALEM (Reuters] -The Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Benjamin will be visiting the United Arab Emirates Sunday, where he will meet the ruler de facto of the Gulf state in the first high-ranking visit between the two countries since their formalisation last year.
As world powers attempt to renew the nuclear deal with Iran, tension is high in the region. The Iranian actions in the area are a concern for both Israel and certain Gulf Arabs.
Bennett stated that he would be traveling to the United Arab Emirates today, marking the first ever visit by an Israeli prime Minister,” Bennett said at a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
Abu Dhabi did not immediately confirm the information.
Along with Sudan, Morocco, Bahrain and Sudan, the UAE moved towards normal ties to Israel through a U.S. sponsored initiative dubbed “Abraham Accords”, in reference the biblical patriarch venerated by Jews, Christians, and Muslims.
Bennett’s Sunday trip to Israel would mark the Israeli premier’s first visit to one of these four countries.
Bennett’s office confirmed that the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed al-Nahyan will meet him on Monday.
Israeli officials stated that the leaders of the two countries will meet to discuss strengthening their relations, with a focus on economic issues which will help contribute to stability and prosperity between them.
