REUTERS/Sarah MeyssonnierPARIS (Reuters-France) – French President Emmanuel Macron declared Sunday that New Caledonia will be French. This was after a large number of French voters in an overseas French territory voted in favor of independence.
“Caledonians chose to stay French. In a live broadcast, Macron declared that they freely made this decision.
“We cannot ignore the fact that the electorate was deeply divided throughout the years. (…) Now is the time for transition,” he stated.
