Artists in Malaysia had full-time jobs before the COVID-19 epidemic. The country’s art galleries and festivals provided inspiration for them, such as George Town and Kuala Lumpur. Due to the fact that March 2020 was a virus, artists had to find other ways to display and sell their artworks.

Many of these artists moved into the digital world, especially the rapidly-growing space of cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens. NFTs represent digital assets which are considered rare resources. They have the unique characteristic of representing proprietorship and can be exchanged with other NFTS. This makes them very valuable.

It has been proven that NFTs are extremely helpful in the collection of artworks. This is why the digital drive to sell artistic collections online is unparalleled. Beeple (an American digital artist) sold an NFT containing his artwork for 69,000,000 dollars in early 2021.

NFTs were originally created in Malaysia as an amusement for engineering and multimedia graduates. However, it only became popular when multidisciplinary digital creatives based in Kuala Lumpur launched the Seni Crypto – ‘Cryptoart’ exhibition at the University of Malaysia.

The Malaysian art scene took full advantage of NFTs and launched the first Crypto art week in July. Pentas.io, a local NFT marketplace, was also created. Many local artists have made a lot of money through it. NFT Malaysia continues to expand over the past year. It has provided more opportunities for artists to learn and work in Malaysia and increased Malaysian art’s global presence.

To make the most of NFTs and increase art’s potential, it is important for artists to promote their art personally and clearly view their artwork to expand their audience and reach.
