HOUSTON (Reuters). Motiva Enterprises, a Texas-based company, has restarted the second-largest crude distillation unit (CDU) at their Port Arthur, Texas refinery. It produces approximately 607,000 barrels per-day, according to sources.

Motiva did not respond to my request for comment.

According to sources, VPS-4, a 195,000-bpd unit, was shut down at Motiva’s biggest refinery on Sunday due to a power cut. On Monday, power had been restored.

VPS-4 was not the only affected by the outage. The 54,000-bpd coker and 49,000-bpd catalyst reformer 4, as well as the 25,200-bpd heavy-gas oil hydrotreater, were also shut down.

VPS-4, one of the three units that are broken down to feedstocks at the refinery, is also known as VPS-4.

The coker converts the residual crude oil left over from distillation units into motor fuel feedstocks and petroleum coke that can be used to substitute coal.

Refinery byproducts are transformed into components that increase octane and can be added to unfinished gasoline.

According to U.S. environmental regulations, Hydrotreaters extract sulfur from motor fuels with hydrogen.
