(Reuters) – The United States has now crossed 50,000,000 coronavirus cases, according to Reuters. This is despite the fact that the Delta variant continues its threat to Americans, and Omicron variant spreading.

The United States reported an increase in infections every day for two weeks after a decline of two months. This was due to the Delta variant, which is more easily transmissible.

The most severe rise in infections per capita is seen in the colder regions of the country, such as Michigan, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Hospitalized COVID sufferers are on the rise as well. They have increased by 20% in the last two weeks, thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday.

The country has seen an increase in deaths of 4.6% over the last month. Its death toll now stands at 800,000.

Nearly 50% of U.S. States have identified cases of Omicron variant. But, Dr. Rochelle Walensky from the CDC has confirmed that the Delta variant accounts for 99%.

Omicron must change the balance in order to make it a serious problem. John Moore, an immunologist at Weill Cornell Medical College, said, “If Omicron suddenly begins to be 10%, then it rises the next week up to 20%, this would indicate that Omicron is in a replacement wave like we saw with Delta replacing Alpha.”

A Reuters analysis shows that it took nearly a year for the first 25,000,000 COVID cases to be registered and only 323 days to register them. It also took less than a full year to move from 25 million to 50,000,000 cases.

The Omicron coronavirus variant was found to reduce the strength of this virus according to laboratory studies (NYSE:). Pfizer BioNTech’s vaccine against COVID-19 infection. It is effective after only two doses. However, a third dose might restore protection.

A booster shot has been administered to approximately 14% of Americans. A little over 10 million have had the booster shot since Thanksgiving, raising concerns about Omicron variant.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:) has developed COVID-19 antiviral medications that can be used in all variations. Countries are eager to purchase the drugs.

Xavier Becerra from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services stated that while vaccinating should be a top priority, pills that prevent people being admitted to the hospital can be a real lifesaver.
