President of UPSHealthcare explained to CNBC Tuesday is one year ago since the first shipment.
Wes Wheeler who is responsible for global carrier’s vaccine logistics, stated that manufacturers have begun to consider how they can modify the formula. Inventory becomes a problem, logistic becomes a problem, and performance is affected.
UPS FedExWhat are the U.S. government’s partners? CovidThe Trump administration initiated vaccine distribution under the original name “Operation Warp Speed”.
In the 12 month past, carriers have fulfilled more than 594 million dosesYou can find the Pfizer, ModernaAnd Johnson & JohnsonYou can get vaccines in your country with an on-time delivery of 99%
According to CNBC’s analysis of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, at least 115 million vaccines must be added to the mix to achieve the goal of 70% fully vaccinated and booster. The CDC reports that 27% have had a booster shot since Dec. 13.
CNBC spoke with Gustave Perna (now retired U.S Army General) about how to maintain the vaccine rollout. Perna, who was the Chief Operating Officer of Operation Warp Speed, retired from service in July under the Biden government.
It is readily available. Once ordered, it will be shipped. Order what you want when you’re ready to use it. Someone who tries to hoard vaccines, bringing too many to ‘just incase’ might have problems. You might take away other areas where the vaccine is needed, and might end up using less. So, you want flow,” Perna said.
Wheeler also agrees flow is essential. The differences in state vaccination distribution, storage and storage plans may create logistical issues following delivery. Because they’re not being used or kept for longer than their intended shelf life, there will be additional vaccines that need to be destroyed or returned. This is my view, it’s the next step.
Wheeler stated that the international vaccination effort was also of top priority, particularly in Africa. less than 10% of the populationIs fully immunized. UPS provides support drone vaccine deliveryZipline, a start-up in Ghana and many other countries. Wheeler explained that they are working to connect with the rest the world. We still have much to do. He said that we are available to assist and that more is possible.
