WASHINGTON (Reuters] – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden will visit Kentucky to inspect the worst affected areas by the most recent tornado outbreak in American history. The system killed at least 74 Americans in Kentucky and at the least fourteen elsewhere.

Biden, who is not afraid of tragic losses in his personal life, will play the role of consolation in chief while promising the strength of the federal Government to help rebuild communities devastated by the billions in damages.

Andy Beshear of Kentucky gave an update on Tuesday. The governor said the victims included 12 children and the youngest was just 2 months old. He stated that he expects the death count to increase in the days ahead, and more than 100 are still missing.

Biden will be visiting Fort Campbell in Kentucky for an overview of the storm, before moving on to Mayfield or Dawson Springs. These two communities are separated by approximately 70 miles (112km) and were mostly flattened during the twisters.

Jen Psaki, White House spokesperson said Tuesday that the president would be “surveying hurricane damage firsthand, and (and] making sure we’re doing all to deliver assistance as soon as possible in affected areas to support recovery attempts.”

Psaki reported that search-and-rescue teams and emergency response teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency have been sent to Kentucky by Psaki. Also, teams will be available to assist survivors who register to receive assistance.

FEMA sent numerous generators in the state with 135,000 gallons (5111,000 litres) water and 74,000 meals. There were also thousands of blankets, sheets, pandemic shelter and toddler kits, as well as a number of cots, blankets, and other supplies.

Biden approved the federal disaster declarations of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois. This allows residents to receive federal assistance that is higher than usual.

This is the first time that Biden (a Democrat) has traveled to places that are heavily Republican. However, the White House was careful not to politicize disaster relief, and has not focused on the possible role of climate change in recent tragic events.

Psaki explained that Psaki views them not as partisans but as humans. He has compassion for their pain and is open to listening.

She added that “The message he’ll send them tomorrow directly is: ‘We are here to help. We want to rebuild.’ And she also said, “We’re standing by you and will help your leaders to do just that.”

Biden was the father of his daughter and first wife, who died in a 1973 car crash. In 2015, his son Beau passed away after fighting brain cancer.
