REUTERS/Chris Helg(Reuters) – Canada will likely increase restrictions on international travel as it seeks to reduce the spread of Omicron coronavirus variant. This is according to CBC News.
The CBC reports that possible measures including a ban for all non-essential foreign travelers coming to Canada from the United States were raised in a conference call with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and the provincial premiers. However, no agreement was made.
According to the report, these measures may include stricter quarantine or testing for travelers who enter Canada.
Canada already has a ban for people who have recently traveled to 10 African countries.
Omicron is a more infectious variant of Delta that health officials claim has spread to Canada’s communities since it was first discovered in November.
According to the CBC there is widespread agreement among Trudeau’s premier and those in the 10 Canadian provinces about the necessity of dramatically increasing the rate of third-dose booster shot.
