Crypto investor Katie Haun leaves Andreessen Horowitz to launch fund

Andreessen Horowitz is being left by one of the most prominent crypto investors in the world to set up her own venture capital fund.

Katie Haun was Andreessen’s first female general partnership in 2018. She said that her fund would launch next year, with a particular focus on blockchain and cryptocurrency start-ups.

Haun is a former federal employee prosecutor, helped raise multiple cryptocurrency-focused funds at Andreessen. This year, the firm invested money in start-ups this year and has already deployed all of its most recent funds. $2.2 billion fundAccording to Axios.

Haun and Chris Dixon co-founded Andreessen’s crypto fund. Chris Dixon will continue to lead the firm’s investments in blockchain with three partners.

Haun posted on Twitter Wednesday, “When Chris and me started our first cryptocurrency fund in 2018, that was a moonshot experiment.” The hard work and dedication of many has made it more than we could have imagined. Web3’s potential to revolutionize the internet is more evident than ever.

Haun plans to travel on her own, as crypto investment moves beyond bitcoins and digital currencies. It takes on greater significance in what techies call Web3 or Web 3.0. Andreessen will continue to have her seats on the boards of OpenSea, as well as other portfolio companies. Coinbase.

Haun’s limited partners will include Andreessen Horowitz. Dixon and Ben Horowitz (the founders of Haun) will also contribute to the new venture.

Known for early bets on companies like Instagram, LyftPinterestAndreessen Horowitz and Slack launched their first digital asset venture through Coinbase in 2013. The first official crypto-focused fund launched three years ago, during what’s now known as “crypto winter.” In 2017, bitcoin’s value plummeted 80% from 2017 highs.

Bitcoin traded above $49,000 on Wednesday, up 700% from the announcement of Andreessen’s first crypto fund.
