PARIS (Reuters), Emmanuel Macron of France said that it is possible for the COVID-19 vaccine to become mandatory in France. But it wasn’t the priority at the moment.

France, like its European neighbors and other countries around the world is trying to stop a new pandemic. France has seen a seven-day increase in new infections since November 2020.

Macron responded to a question from TF1 and LCI TV stations asking if COVID-19 vaccination might become compulsory in France.

However, he said that France was almost there in terms of practice. France, with nearly 90% of French eligible citizens already having their jabs, was close to the levels of vaccination that could be made mandatory.

First, he encourages those who are still waiting for a jab to take it.

“It is estimated that there are more than 5,000,000 of our citizens who aren’t vaccinated. Therefore, I urge them to be responsible. We see many people today who were not vaccinated in hospitals.

He said, “Vaccinate. Vaccininate. Vaccinate. This is the first Pillar.” The interview was taped on Sunday and broadcast Wednesday.

Children aged between five and eleven years are eligible for vaccinations, however, he stated that it is up to their parents.

Macron said that he would not rule out the possibility of imposing additional restrictions on Christmas. However, he did say that “one always has to be careful about such matters.” Because of high numbers of COVID-19 patients, he said that hospitals would be put under great pressure.

France will soon require PCR testing of all travelers entering France from Britain. Omicron variant-related infections have been on the rise, according to a French government source.
