(Reuters) -Stephen Curry, a Golden State Warriors player, set the NBA’s 3-point record at New York’s Madison Square Garden. He made his 2,974th long-range shot during the quarter and surpassed Ray Allen.

Curry was a three time National Basketball Association champion, and a two-time league MVP. He pounded his chest, and then let out a loud scream after hitting the 28 foot shot. After hitting the 28-foot shot, Curry was immediately welcomed by teammates, coaches, his father, ex-NBA player Dell Curry, as well as Allen.

Curry entered the contest Tuesday night just two short of Allen’s regular-season record. In anticipation of Allen’s record, the packed-out crowd was on their feet through the first half of the game.

Reggie Miller is the third player on this list, with 2,560 3-pointers.

Curry is 33 years old and is currently playing his 13th season. He is considered to be the best shooter of all time in the league’s history.

As of Tuesday’s clash with the Knicks, he averaged 27 points per night and shot 40.1% from beyond a arc.
