U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.08% -Breaking

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The index gained 1.08% and the index climbed 1.63% at the closing of NYSE. Meanwhile, the index climbed 2.15%.

Cisco Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:) rose by 3.74%, or 2.16 points, to trade at 59.5 at the closing. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (+3.11%) gained 14.92 points to 494.38, while Apple Inc (NASDAQ) rose 2.85% to 179.30.

They were also the worst performers of the session. Nike Inc (NYSE:) fell 0.91%, or 1.50 points, to close at 163.90. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:) declined 0.75% or 1.19 points to end at 157.94 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:), was 0.66 point lower at 115.56, or 0.57%.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:) which rose 10.39% to 275.28, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 8.04% to settle at 146.50 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which gained 7.49% to close at 304.59.

These were the worst performers Nucor Corp (NYSE:), which fell 8.61% to 108.12 in late trading, Medtronic PLC (NYSE) lost 6.4% to settle at 104.94, and Newmont Goldcorp Corp was at 54.23.

Top performers of the NASDAQ Composite are Theseus Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 which rose by 34.12% at 12.58; CMC Materials Inc (1NASDAQ 🙂 which was higher 33.93% at 195.50 Biofrontera Inc (NASDAQ) gained 26.36% and closed at 6.95

These were the worst performers ATAI Life Sciences BV (NASDAQ) was down 31.94% at 6.82 in late trading, Pulmatrix Inc: (NASDAQ) lost 31.58% to settle for 0.4851 China Xiangtai Food Co Ltd (NASDAQ:) The close was 28.17% lower at 1.8100

The New York Stock Exchange saw rising stocks surpass declining stocks by 2151 to 109; 149 closed unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange 2462 rose, 1332 fell, and 218 finished unchanged.

Eli Lilly and Company’s shares rose 10.39% to record highs. This is an increase of 25.90 or 25.90 points to 275.28. Medtronic PLC shares (NYSE:), fell to 52 week lows, down 6.4% or 6.75 to 104.94. Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:), rose to new 5-year highs. It grew 3.74%, or 2.16 to 59.93. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated rose to record highs with a rise of 3.11%, or 14.92 to 484.38. Shares of ATAI Life Sciences BV NASDAQ: fell to their lowest level in 31.94%, or from 3.20 to 6.82. Pulmatrix Inc. shares (NASDAQ) plunged to new lows, down 31.58% (0.2239 to 0.4851).

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 11.88% to 19.29.

For February delivery, Gold Futures rose 0.29% to $1777.40 an ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil for January delivery rose by 1.05%, or 0.74, to $71.47 per barrel. The February Brent oil contract dropped 0.01%, or 0.01, to $74.31 per barrel.

EUR/USD rose 0.09% from 1.1295 to 1.1295 and USD/JPY climbed 0.01% from 114.04.

US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.2% at 96.293.
