NEW YORK (Reuters), The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Thursday it will permanently lift restrictions on a medication used to terminate pregnancies. It will also make it simpler to access the medicine in pharmacies and via the mail.

This means that patients no longer need to travel to the clinic to obtain the medicine, also known as generically mifepristone from their health care provider.

Since 2000, the FDA has been approving the drug. The government lifted the restrictions temporarily earlier in the year.
