WASHINGTON (Reuters] – A U.S. House of Representatives panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, which killed dozens of people, said Thursday that they had sent a subpoena to James P. Waldron. Waldron was a former Army colonel and worked closely with President Donald Trump’s legal team.

Widespread media reports claim that Waldron told Congress members about a PowerPoint presentation that listed suggestions for challenging Trump’s defeat in 2020 by President Joe Biden.

Mr. Waldron was allegedly involved in the promotion of claims of fraud and the circulation of strategies to challenge results of 2020 elections. “He was also reportedly in communication with Trump White House officials, and Congress discussing his theories during the weeks leading to the attack of January 6th,” Rep. Bennie Thompson, the chairperson of the select panel, stated in a statement.

Former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows presented the PowerPoint slide to the Jan. 6, Select Committee. It included options such as declaring a National Security Emergency and seizing paper ballots.

In its probe of the attacks by Republican supporters on the ex-president, the committee issued over 50 subpoenas to more than 300 witnesses. Congress also met to officially certify Joe Biden’s November 2020 defeat.
