PRAGUE (Reuters). Volkswagen’s Skoda auto will continue its Christmas holiday until January 10. This was announced by unions at the Czech largest carmaker on Thursday. The announcement comes as parts supply disruptions are causing havoc in the automotive industry.

The global car industry has been affected by supply bottlenecks in chips. Czech industry output suffered again in October due to shortages, which led to weaker start to the fourth quarter.

Skoda will give workers a break starting on December 23rd. However, only a portion of the time will count as holiday. In their weekly bulletin, unions announced that workers will receive compensation equal to 80% of their wages for production being halted due to company troubles.

Skoda stated that it produced between 75 and 80% of its capacity at the start of December.
