New York state reports highest number of daily Covid cases of entire pandemic at more than 21,000

New York saw the highest number of Covid infections in one day during the pandemic. It reached just over 21,000 on Thursday. Kathy Hochul made the announcement.
The state health department reported that 8% of the total Covid testing results came back positive. That’s almost twice as many people who tested positive just a few days before.
“The winter surge in COVID-19 cases is a reminder that the pandemic is not over yet and we must take extra care to keep ourselves and each other safe,” Hochul said in a press release Friday.
This data is coming as the U.S. fights the rising cases due to the Covid Delta variant, while the new omicron variant spreads quickly. Omicron comprised 13.1% of all Covid cases in the New York and New Jersey regionLast week, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention reported.
