No guarantee Germany will name new Buba chief on Wednesday

BERLIN (Reuters – Germany is unlikely to choose a successor for Bundesbank President Jens Widmann next Wednesday at a cabinet meeting, a spokesperson stated.

Steffen Hebestreit stated that he could not promise or guarantee the succession to Jens Weidmann, head of the Bundesbank, in cabinet Wednesday. This was at a regular government press conference Friday.

After a decade in which there was little opposition to successive Presidents’ generous European Central Bank policies, Weidmann will be retiring five years earlier than expected on December 31.
