Oracle in talks to buy Cerner

(Reuters) -Enterprise software maker Oracle (NYSE:) is in talks to buy electronic medical records company Cerner (NASDAQ:) in a deal that could be valued at $30 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported https://on.wsj.com/32d7M3v on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Oracle could gain access to a wealth of data from the health sector, which it can use to improve and train its cloud-based artificial intelligence-based services. This will help boost its position in the healthcare industry.

The Oracle-Cerner merger could prove to be one the most important takeovers of 2021, according to the WSJ.

After Epic Systems Corp, Cerner is America’s largest seller of electronic medical record software. Cerner had listed Amazon (NASDAQ:) Web Services in 2019 as the preferred cloud provider. It also stated that they were collaborating to develop AI services for hospitals.

Reuters requested comment from Oracle and Cerner, but neither company responded immediately.
