EDWARDSVILLE (Ill.) – Six workers died in a tornado that ripped into an Amazon warehouse (NASDAQ:). Friends and families expressed sorrow and anger Friday as they bid farewell to their loved ones.

A barrage of tornadoes struck six states in the United States on December 10, leaving behind a trail that lasted more than 200 km (322km) of destruction and death.

Six workers at an Amazon delivery center were among the victims. Amazon reports that the site had received tornado warnings from 8:06 to 8:16 before the tornado hit the building at 8 :27.

Reuters was told by employees that Amazon managers directed their workers to take refuge in the bathrooms when they received emergency notifications on their mobile phones. His co-worker claimed that at least one worker had died in sheltering in the restroom.

Paige Marquis, friend and former roommate of Clayton Lynn Cope, one of the workers who perished, said, “They all want to blame the building. How about inside the building? They shouldn’t have had to keep working when they knew the storm was coming.”

Unidentified Amazon worker said that many workers were confused and upset. According to her, all of the deceased were contractors and not Amazon workers.

Amazon had previously stated that Amazon employees were instructed to shelter in place at an area designated at the front, near a bathroom.

To remember the victims, a tree of dogwood was planted in front of a municipal building. Art Risavy, Edwardsville mayor said that the community is close knit. “It will take time to heal.”

According to National Weather Service, the tornado devastated the area at 8:28 and 8.32 pm central time. The intensity of the storm intensified when it hit Amazon’s warehouse.
