LONDON (Reuters] -Boris Johnson and the Conservatives have lost control of a parliamentary constitut they had dominated for almost 200 years. The result is a vote against Britain’s Prime Minister over a number of scandals, crises, and other issues.

Johnson is likely to feel even more pressure after the defeat. This will confirm public and private fears about Johnson’s reputation as well as its prospects in elections.

Helen Morgan (centre-liberal Liberal Democrats) won North Shropshire by close to 6,000 votes. This defeats a 23,000-vote Conservative majority that was in place from 2019.

“Tonight, North Shropshire’s people have spoken for the British people. In her triumph speech, Morgan stated that they had spoken loudly and clear: “Boris Johnson! The party is over!”

Since 1983 when this constituency was formed, it had been dominated by the Conservatives. Since 1983, the area has seen almost 200 years of dominance by Conservative politicians.

Johnson has been criticised on many fronts. He was also condemned for reports suggesting that his employees hosted Christmas parties in the country’s lockdown.

Sky News’ Oliver Dowden, Conservative Chairman and Lawmaker said that voters in North Shropshire had become fed up with us and gave us a kick. He believes they were trying to convey a message. As the Chairman of Conservative Party I’d like to state that this is what we heard loudly and clearly.

According to nationwide opinion polls, Conservatives trail Labour Party by a significant margin. The result is due to outrage over legislators’ second jobs, criticisms about Johnson’s funding of Johnson’s extravagant refurbishment of his flat and an increase in COVID-19 case.

Because the Conservative incumbent had broken the rules regarding paid lobbying, the vote for North Shropshire, which is one of Britain’s 650 electoral seats, was not called during the regular election period.

After Johnson’s leadership provoked backlash, the government tried to prevent Johnson from resigning by amending rules to combat corruption in Parliament. However, they were forced to reverse their efforts.

British voters use midterm elections (known as by-elections) to punish their ruling party. But the Liberal Democrat victory shows deep public dissatisfaction about Johnson’s government.

After a win in the 2019 general election, it still has a majority of seats in parliament. This was based on its promise to “Get Brexit Done” which united conservative voters and a number of new supporters.

North Shropshire is a pro-Brexit and staunchly Conservative region. Analysts believe Friday’s crushing defeat could further weaken Johnson’s control over legislators, who are currently in revolt against plans to create COVID-19 passports.

In 2024, Britain will hold its next national elections.
