Chinese electric car start-up Nio reveals a new sedan AR VR glasses

BEIJING — Chinese electric car company NioA new sedan was unveiled Saturday along with customized AR glasses. They reduce the requirement for car screens.

Augmented reality allows you to place digital images above the physical world. The tech allows drivers to focus on driving without looking at their dashboards.

Nio stated that it has partnered with Chinese augmented reality start-up NrealThe ET5 has AR glasses to go with the new sedan.

Delivery of the electric car will start in September 2022. Pre-subsidy pricing starts at 328,000 yuan ($512,250 for models with batteries). According to the company, AR glasses cannot be included in an electric car and should be purchased separately.

Nio’s ET5 sedan is the second to hit the market. It was the first sedan of the company. the ET7, was revealed in JanuaryPre-subsidy prices starting at 448,000 Yuan are higher but hasn’t begun deliveries yet.

The ET7 will begin deliveries in March 2022. That was stated by William Li, Nio founder, Chairman and CEO.

Tesla, BYD, XpengChina has many electric car manufacturers that sell sedans.

Nio stated that November saw a rebound in deliveries after falling to 3,667 in October. This brings the year’s total at 80,940 units. The China Passenger Car Association reported that its ES6- and EC6-powered SUVs were among China’s top 10 selling new energy SUVs in November.

Nio will enter Germany

The ET5 electric sedan by Nio offers six interior options, including the seatbelt.

AR/VR Investments

Nio Capital, Nio Capital investment arm is an investor at Nreal. According to a press release, the ET5 sedan’s custom glasses can project a screen of 201 inches at 6 meters.

Nio Capital also announced that the company has developed virtual reality glasses in collaboration with Nolo (another Chinese startup backed by Nio Capital). The pricing and availability details were not revealed.
