OSAKA (Reuters – 24 victims of a fire at a psychiatry center in Osaka, Japan were killed by a suspect arsonist. A patient spoke to media a day following the incident.

A patient in his 20s at the clinic said, “I cannot forgive the person who did this,” declining to identify himself.

He stated, “I would like the one responsible to pay the crime as per law.”

Funeralers placed flowers, as well as beer and water offerings on a temporary table at the front of their building. The blue plastic sheet was covered by police and kept them safe.

One 34-year-old caregiver said that she wanted the children to enjoy warm coffee. She placed a can of coffee on the tables.

He cried and said that he prayed for an end to incidents like these.

According to a spokesperson for the police, Friday’s fire started after a man entered clinic with a bag of liquid. After setting it down next to a heater, he lit it and then kicked it.

According to NHK, the 61-year old man is a former patient at the clinic. He remains in critical condition in hospital. NHK reported that there was an earlier fire at the home of the man 30 minutes before the clinic caught on fire.

An arson attack on an animation studio in Kyoto claimed the lives of 36 people, and left many others injured. 44 people were killed by a fire in 2001 at Tokyo’s Kabukicho entertainment zone.
