In “Spider-Man: No Way Home” Tom Holland plays a superhero who fearlessly swings from buildings and battles powerful villains — but in real life, the British actor has struggled with his confidence. 

Speak to GQ magazineHolland, 25 years old, shared his fear of starting new projects or being scared earlier in life. He told the publication that a lot his confidence as a child was fake. “But, really, inside I was, ‘Oh, my God, I’m … terrified.’ ” 

Holland, who was 19 when he played Spider-Man, was first cast in 2015. He appeared in “Captain America: Civil War”, 2016 and then starred in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, 2017, alongside other stars Robert Downey Jr. Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Zendaya, and many others. On Thursday night, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” premiered in theatres throughout the United States. It is estimated that it will bring in around $200 million over its initial weekend. CNBC reports. 

Holland claims that he was able to calm down his nerves by focusing on the positive instead of worrying. Holland told GQ, “I received this piece of advice from my father when I was a kid. It’s the exact same thing as excitement.”

Holland said that his acting career was not without its challenges. He also felt burned out and could not figure out how to have a better balance between work and home. But Elizabeth Olsen — who co-starred with Holland in “Captain America: Civil War” and the Avengers movies, helped teach the actor how to stand up for himself. “She gave me an amazing piece of advice: ‘No’ is a full sentence …’No’ is enough'” he told GQ. 

Holland took that advice as a guide during his international press tour to promote “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” in which he visited 17 different countries. Holland admitted that he had been “really ill” at the end of the tour, China. He added, “But I didn’t say no.”

Holland reached breaking point at a news conference when he threw up and left the podium. Holland said that he was feeling under immense pressure to complete his day’s work. That was my first experience of saying, “No, I’m finished now.” You’ve got everything. ”

Holland said that many people mistake Holland’s kindness for weakness. “Let me tell you, when you’re a 19-year-old kid, they really do take advantage of you … you don’t know any better,” he said during his GQ interview. Now I think back, and I realize that I should have said no. ”

Holland consulted Olsen again as he shot the final scene of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” I kept stopping. [the shoot] and being like, ‘I’m so sorry, I just don’t believe what I’m saying,’ ” he told GQ. 

Holland met with Jon Watts to talk about the scene and came up with an original idea. He said, “Then, we pitched it to writers. They rewrote and it works great.” 

Holland, who will be starring in the action-film “Uncharted” in February, will play Fred Astaire’s role in a biopic about Astaire.
