UK Foreign Secretary Truss to take over Brexit talks with EU -Breaking

LONDON, (Reuters) – After the resignation of David Frost as Brexit minister, Liz Truss was appointed Britain’s chief negotiator to the European Union for the Northern Ireland Protocol. This announcement came from Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office on Sunday.

Frost, a core architect of Johnson’s tumultuous Brexit strategy, quit https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-brexit-supremo-frost-resigns-blow-johnson-mail-sunday-2021-12-18 on Saturday over disillusionment with the direction of the prime minister’s government. Questions were raised about his resignation and how it will affect the EU’s future divorce negotiations.

“Truss will take over Ministerial responsibility for the UK’s relationship with the European Union with immediate effect … and will lead the ongoing negotiations to resolve the problems arising from the current operation of the Northern Ireland Protocol,” Johnson’s office said.

Truss was a former trade minister and took over in September as the foreign minister. This is why he is very popular with Conservative Party’s grassroots.

She is an avid social media user and is being tipped to be a future leader of the party. Although she supported “Remain” in the referendum regarding Britain’s EU membership, she is now a supporter for Brexit.

Although Britain officially left the EU in January, talks between the EU and Britain continue on trade arrangements known as the Northern Ireland Protocol for British territory that has a border with Ireland.
