Nigerian Creator of the Viral Illustration Of A Black Foetus Wants To Sell It

Chidiebere Ibe (Nigeria, Chemistry) recently illustrated the unborn baby of a black pregnant woman. His Bachelor of Chemistry degree was from University of Uyo, Nigeria. In 2022, he plans to continue his studies at Kyiv Medical School, Ukraine. This illustration received more attention than the artist expected, particularly on Twitter (NYSE :). Chidiebere has now released the artwork as an NFT for a price of approximately 10ETH, or $38,000. OpenSea, a crypto startup that offers cryptocurrency startups, will host the artwork.

He (Chidiebere), announced the sale on Instagram of his artwork and stated that part of the proceeds would go to support social initiatives he’s been involved in as a way of fulfilling his social responsibility. It will be used to mentor and empower young digital artists. His work is one of many digital artist works that have been listed as non-profits. Many people cheered him and pointed to the uniqueness of his art, which they hadn’t seen before.

When asked about his inspiration, he said that he was an advocate of equality in healthcare. His medical illustrations were the best way for him to contribute to this equality. According to research done in 2018, less than 5% medical textbook images featured dark skin tones. Ni-ka Ford is the Chair of the Association of Medical Illustrators and claims that such low graphical representations can be attributed, as per NBC News.
