(Reuters) – Eric Adams, the New York City mayor-elect, announced that his Jan. 1 inauguration will be postponed due to an increase in Omicron-related COVID-19 cases. He made the announcement in a media statement.

He stated that “it is evident that our city faces a formidable opponent within the Omicron variant.” The statement said that after consulting with public health specialists, the decision was made to postpone our joint ceremony of inauguration.
