Toyota to start car hardware, software update service in Japan -Breaking

TOKYO (Reuters). Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE 🙂 Corp stated Tuesday that they will offer a customisation service for next year. This is in response to customers who are increasingly keeping their cars for longer periods of time.

Kinto Factory is a service that will provide new safety features, refreshed interiors and software upgrades for car computers.

Toyota is moving away from being a car manufacturer and dealer to becoming a service-based “mobility” company. Toyota Kinto launched the new service in 2019 and it offers car-sharing.

Shinya Kodera, president of Kinto, told reporters that cars should be used for as long as possible in good condition. Then they can be collected and recycled.

He added that Kinto Factory would be open to expansion abroad.

The Kinto subscriptions offer insurance and car leasing at flat rates. They were launched two years ago.
