LONDON, (Reuters) – Rishi Sunak is the British finance minister and will discuss soon his conversations with hospitality industry representatives who demand more government support in light of Omicron coronavirus which has decimated the sector.

Steve Barclay, Minister for Cabinet Office said that “He was calling with industry leaders last evening and he will be talking more about this soon,” BBC radio reported on Tuesday.

UKHospitality figures published Monday show a 40% decline in takes during weekends and a deep concern about prospects for New Years Eve.

Industries have demanded clarification on government plans and financial assistance in order to address the problem.

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, said Monday that he would be looking at every possible measure to maintain Omicron under control and warned that more restrictions could be required.

Barclay said to the BBC that while the prime minister had indicated his willingness to consider further action, it was a matter of taking a look at the information and considering what the implications of additional restrictions might be.
