(Reuters) – Package delivery giant United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE) placed an order to purchase 19 Boeing (NYSE) Co 767 cargo planes. This is because of a rise in ecommerce, according to the U.S. planemaker.

According to Boeing, this deal will add to the “record-breaking” year in Boeing Freighter Sales, adding that there were 80 firm orders placed for widebody cargoers, and over 80 for Boeing Converted Freighters.

After suffering from pandemic lows in the past, planemakers have found a bright spot in freighter markets. This is due to a surge in online sales, disruptions in supply chains, and an increase in passengers flying on passenger planes.

UPS, which was a major beneficiary of the pandemic shift towards online shopping, will be taking delivery of aircraft in 2023 and 20, according to Nando Cezarone, U.S. Operations president.

Boeing stated that the Freighter’s first customer will be UPS. The new planes will allow UPS to fulfill the Freighter’s long-term and near-term cargo demands.

UPS ordered 91 planes since the 1995 launch, according to the statement.

Boeing, the dominant freighter company, predicts a 4% increase in annual air cargo demand for the next 20-years.
