WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – After she raised concerns about European legislation that would rein in U.S.-based platforms in Europe, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo was asked to meet with them in January.

Yelp (NYSE:), REX, the News Media Alliance, and other signers signed a Tuesday letter in which they requested a meeting for the week January 10-14. The request came after Raimondo indicated that Europe is closely monitoring the Digital Services Act.

She stated that she was concerned about the impact of these proposed changes on U.S.-based technology firms, their ability to serve EU customers adequately and maintain security and privacy standards.

DSA forces Google, Amazon (NASDAQ), Apple (NASDAQ) and Facebook’s (NASDAQ) owners Meta to act more aggressively to remove illegal content from their platforms. The authors wrote: “US businesses have raised concern about anti-competitive conduct on these dominant online platforms and have given evidence to European policy makers during the writing of EU legislative proposals.”

The authors wrote that they hoped to see them work together in the future to further American companies’ and consumers’ interests when interfacing with transatlantic partners.

According to the Commerce Department, Raimondo supports legislation’s goals and will continue talking with European partners.
