WASHINGTON (Reuters] – After Senator Joe Manchin rejected President Obama’s Build Back Better Plan earlier in the week, conversations with his office will continue.

Jen Psaki spokeswoman said that senator Manchin had been engaged with them over time and in good faith. There will be further negotiations. Keep your eyes open and keep the dialogue going.

Psaki indicated that President Joe Biden was still in agreement with his fellow Democrats on the need to pass legislation addressing climate change and social welfare.

Manchin, who is vital in the split Senate of 50-50, said Sunday to Fox News that he will not vote for this bill. Biden stated Tuesday that he and Manchin would “get something done”

Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, has stated that the chamber will vote on a package by early 2022.

Psaki said to reporters that Biden had been clear about wanting the package paid for, even though some programs might need to be extended later. He also acknowledged disagreements regarding the timelines.

“Compromise should not be considered a dirty word.” She said, “We’re going to keep discussing it.”
