Jack Dorsey, Ex-Twitter CEO, Says Bitcoin will Replace the U.S. Dollar

Jack Dorsey was once the CEO of Twitter (NYSE.) and currently heads fintech firm Block. He exchanged tweets Monday night with Cardi B (a Grammy nominee). The performer tweeted to her 20.5 million followers the following question, “Do you think crypto will replace the dollar?” To which Dorsey replied, “Yes, will.”

What’s interesting is that he didn’t say crypto in general or a vague blockchain-based technology would replace the dollar. Jack endorsed Bitcoin as the global heavyweight currency champion.

Recent congressional hearings were held in both the Senate and House of Representatives. Both sides of the political spectrum expressed concerns about stablecoins or Bitcoin threatening the integrity of the dollar as global reserve currency.

At neither hearing did any of the witness(s) testify that any cryptocurrency would replace dollars. This included both academicians as well as crypto executives working for trading exchanges or stablecoin providers.

Dorsey turned that script upside down with one tweet.

Although, that’s not all that surprising. He has reiterated to Block investors that Bitcoin will play a major role in the company’s future ambitions. He stated on October 1st that Block was researching how to create a Bitcoin-mining platform based upon open source code, custom silicon and other technologies.

Those plans would bolster Block’s existing Bitcoin projects that include a decentralized exchange (DEX), the tbDEX white paper was recently issued; a Bitcoin-focused open developer platform; as well as a hardware wallet for the cryptocurrency. It’s worth noting that Block has enabled Bitcoin payments through its Cash App service since 2018.
