Christie's NFT Sales Total Nearly $150 Million in 2021

Christie’s announced on Twitter (NYSE 🙂 that they sold $150 million in non-fungible tokens this year. Beeple’s Everyday and Human One series art were both sold.

NFT is very popular, particularly among well-known companies and individuals. Most of the sales came from two Beeple paintings. In March and November, the Everyday and Human One series were sold for nearly $70 million. Christie’s has sold over $7 billion in artworks.

NFTs are enjoying an extraordinary year at established auction houses such as Christie’s or Sotheby’s. The development is a clear indication of the depth to which NFTs continue to penetrate the established art market. Christie’s has just begun auctioning rare NFTs using live bidding. This is a new first for auction houses. One of the most famous NFTs has been sold is an Andy Warhol painting, which was created in the 1980s.

Sotheby’s had another successful year with NFTs, in 2021. At the first auction in ETH, a Banksy painting was sold for $12M. Sotheby’s bought the Bored Ape NFT collection from the auction house for $24 million, just before the company launched an NFT marketplace. Christie’s art+Tech event also discussed the possible effects of NFTs on art. NFTs have been taking control of the art auction marketplace in an increasing number. Recently, cryptocurrency was accepted by the auction company for payment.

These breakthroughs could be a boon for NFTs which have been both applauded and condemned. NFTs are expected to grow in usefulness and volume due to the growing popularity of the metaverse. Meta and other well-known businesses are looking into joining the metaverse. NFTs have many applications and are rapidly gaining popularity in the gaming sector. These promising developments suggest that NFTs are on the verge of a bright future.
