NFT or non-fungible token became so popular in 2021 that Collins Dictionary named the term the word of year. Google (NASDAQ) search for NFTs also reached new heights. Cointelegraph Research estimates that the market for NFTs is approximately $17 billion. OpenSea, an NFT platform that facilitates most of these transactions has a recent trading volume of over $10 billion. NFTs offer a wide range of potential beyond just art. Their utility extends to both owning and having exclusive access to certain functions and features.

Not only were these collections outstanding, but their growing communities as well, from CryptoPunks, Beeples collage to NBA Top Shots and RTFKT. DappRadar says that CryptoPunks are the most popular NFTs. Before the ERC-721 NFT standard was adopted, this collection started in 2017. The free distribution by Larva Labs of every 10,000 cryptopunks has made CryptoPunks a huge success on the secondary market. CryptoPunks is the largest trading platform, with 756,984 Ether ($3.03 Billion) being traded on OpenSea. Due to its historical and increasing value, it is the most important NFT collection.

Bored Ape Yacht Club (or BAYC) has the largest historical trading volume at 266,843 Eth or $1.07 billion. A Yacht Club membership card can also be made from an NFT if the owner of one of 10,000 Bored Apes is present. The NFT grants members exclusive access to THE BATHROOM as well as the Mutant Ape Yacht Club and Bored Ape Kennel Club. OpenSea’s November spike may be due to an increase of more than 9000 percent in sales of Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs and Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs.
