JERUSALEM, (Reuters) – Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet went into isolated at home Sunday after his 14 year-old daughter was diagnosed with the coronavirus. His office stated that he will wait for results from a COVID-19 PCR testing.

After learning that his daughter had a positive test result, Bennett left his weekly cabinet meeting and went home to take care of himself. This was amid rapidly-emerging infections in Israel due to the Omicron variant.

His office confirmed that the premier’s daughter was vaccinated for COVID-19. The office did not say whether the daughter had contracted Omicron, or the Delta variant which is also common in Israel.

Bennett received his booster shot Aug. 20, so he, along with other government members, took quick antigen tests. They were negative.

Bennett was the target of public criticism following his family’s holiday to Europe with his children and wife earlier this month. He also called for Israel to stop Omicron from spreading, cancelling all plans to fly abroad.

The measures were approved by his government, which prohibits Israelis from traveling to many countries. The Israeli ban on foreigners was preceded these edicts.

Israel reports 1,118 Omicron-related cases. The number of Omicron-infected people is increasing every 2 days.
