Artentik is the first virtual marketplace for Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa. This 500-year old social enterprise in Portugal and the keeper of Lisbon’s Museum and Church of Sao Roque will be making a release of a replica of a thorn thought to come from Christ’s Crown of Thorns on December 28th 2021.

Juan de Borja received the relic in 1581 after it was purchased originally by Brno’s Jesuit College. The relic was found in a small bottle of Bohemian crystal perfume. This indicated that the relic was intended to be kept private. In 1594, Mr. de Borja gave the antique to the Lisbon Jesuits. Later it was moved to Santa Casa by 1768.

To allow people to make connections with this rare antique, 1,000,000 NFTs from Thorn will be produced. This allows them to use the Thorn in the same way that a commemorative coin can be used to honor a person, event, or time. In addition, 10,000 NFTs will be dropped for sale this month alone at €300 each.

Margarida Montegro, head of Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa’s Culture Direction mentioned the possibility that the Thorn could serve as a healing and restorative talisman. It was believed the Thorn was touched by Christ. It was also pointed out that before the invention of NFTs people were unable to own this special piece of history or enjoy its beauty at will.

Artentik is a digital marketplace that will hold the sale. It is built using the Polygon Network Blockchain, which provides faster transactions and greater reliability. Artentik is also a joint venture with Boloro International Limited in New York City, which does not charge any gas fees to mint NFTs.
