ZURICH, (Reuters) – Clariant in Switzerland announced on Tuesday that it was buying assets of BASF North America’s German rival in specialty chemicals. This cash transaction will bring Clariant its long-term growth strategy to $60 million.

Clariant stated that it plans to purchase the assets of BASF’s U.S. Attapulgite Business–one the biggest miners and manufacturers of clay material–in summer 2022. Clariant claimed this can remove contaminants from renewable fuel production.

“This acquisition fits very well with our growth strategy to grow through sustainability-focused innovations and bolt-on acquisitions,” Clarient Chief Executive Conrad Keijzer said in a statement, adding it would improve its position in renewable fuels purifications.
