(Reuters) – The congressional investigation into the Jan. 6, deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol aims to publish an interim report by the summer 2022, and a final report in fall according to a source close to the probe.

According to Washington Post’s first report, the timetable would allow for the release of committee findings by November 2022. Republicans are expected to retain control of Congress in November 2022, defeating the Select Committee. This would give them the opportunity to close the Select Committee.

The Jan. 6 Select Committee of the House is currently investigating the cause of the attack. This includes former President Donald Trump’s actions as well as his attempts to alter the outcome of the election.

Trump declared to his supporter that he wouldn’t concede the Nov.3 election. Before they left for the Capitol, Trump urged them all to fight like hell.

In its investigation into the attack, more than 50 subpoenas were issued by the committee and more than 300 witnesses have been heard.

Although the panel’s work has been mostly done behind closed doors for now, its leaders stated that they intend to host public hearings over the coming months.

On the morning of the riot four people were killed and one Capitol officer was injured while protecting Congress. Over 100 police officers were hurt during Trump’s multi-hour assault, while four other officers took their lives.

The assault on Capitol has led to more than 700 arrests.
